Hey Guys,
When I was driving to my Astronomy class today, bored in the car as ever, I had an epiphany.
Why not create a FBB Sim League just for Winter Break?
I know, some are actually busy for the holidays. But, there are people (notably students) who get a long winter break with nothing to do. They don't spend a lot of time with family (well, some, but not a lot), it's cold outside, and if you're a college student, most of your friends may be far away. This leaves time for staying in and watching basketball, playing video games, and....Sim Leagues, of course!
I was thinking I might implement this idea on my own, but I thought it would be a better idea to start with a base of GMs....and what better base of GMs than EBL GMs? According to Cyrux, the real league won't start up again until Winter Break is over, so I figured it might be nice to give GMs to do with their time.
Frequently Asked Questions for EBL Winter League:
So, how would this work?
Well, here's a trial schedule:
Thursday, December 19th- Preliminary FA?
Friday, December 18th- Season 1, Sim 1, Days 1-30
Saturday, December 19th- Season 1, Sim 2, Days 31-60
Sunday, December 20th- Season 1, Sim 3, Days 61-90
Monday, December 21st- Season 1, Sim 4, Days 91-120
Tuesday, December 22nd- Season 1 Playoffs, Resignings
Wednesday, December 23rd- Season 1 Draft
Thursday, December 24th- DAY OFF, Christmas Eve
Friday, December 25th- DAY OFF, Christmas
Saturday, December 26th- FA 1-2 (Noon), FA 3-4 (Evening), FA 5 (Night)
Sunday, December 27th- Season 2, Sim 1, Days 1-30
Monday, December 28th- Season 2, Sim 2, Days 31-60
Tuesday, December 29th- Season 2, Sim 3, Days 61-90
Wednesday, December 30th- Season 2, Sim 4, Days 91-10
Thursday, December 31st- DAY OFF, New Years Eve
Friday, January 1st- Season 2 Playoffs, Resignings
Saturday, January 2nd- Season 2 Draft
Sunday, January 3rd- Season 2 FA 1-2 (Noon), FA 3-4 (Evening), FA 5 (Night)
Monday, January 4th- Season 3, Sim 1, Days 1-30
Tuesday, January 5th- Season 3, Sim 2, Days 31-60
Wednesday, January 6th- Season 3, Sim 3, Days 61-90
Thursday, January 7th- Season 3, Sim 4, Days 91-120
Friday, January 8th- Season 3 Playoffs
Saturday, January 9th- League Awards Given, League Wrap-Up
I end it a bit after High Schoolers have to go back to school, and a bit before College Students go back to school. I fall into the latter category, so if there's enough support, I think we could push into a 4th season. Or, we could extend the schedule a bit to give ourselves more breathing room.
What NBA year would it start in?
Since EBL is going to continue, I thought we'd either build an entirely new file in the present time, or go back to EBLs old, base file (in 07-08), and progressing through the 08 NBA Draft and 09 NBA Draft before finally finishing in 2009-2010.
What forums would it be on?
I'd either add on to the forums here, or move it to an entirely new forum. I wouldn't use the existing forums, as I don't want the different EBLs getting confused.
What site will it be on? Yours is full of viruses.
I'll probably look into a new domain, something like www (dot) eblwinterleague (dot) com.
If I choose not to participate, do I lose my GMing job?
Not at all. The EBL Winter League is completely separate from normal EBL. Think of it as a "League 2".
Will this league continue into the Summer? Or next Winter Break? Or Spring Break?
Winter is the ideal time, but it's all about the amount of interest that I get in it, and how much time I have in the future.
How many GMs would we need for this to go forward?
I'd like at least 20, more would be optimal. But, if we get 15 or so, I just might move forward with the idea. Ideally, I'd count on people from other leagues joining in on the action.
Why the fast pace?
Because this league is designed for people who will have a lot of free time on their hands. The whole point is to give you more things to do than the average 3 Sims a Week, 10-15 Days a Simulation Sim league does. In the end, you still only have to check once a day (except on Weekends, when FA is going on), and you can be as active or inactive as you choose to be.
Has this been approved by Cyrux, Gus, or Matt?
Nope, I'm just speculating right now. Ultimately, if I get interest, but they don't want to give me the file or something (unlikely), I'll just do it independently or partnered with another sim league.
Can this league carry awards into the real EBL? Like extra PPs?
Possibly. We'd have to check with Matt on that one.
Would the rules be the same as regular EBL?
More or less. There would be a few differences, just because this league goes at a more rapid pace. For example, only a Sim 1 Depth Chart, Resignings, a Draft List, and a Free Agent List would be required. Firing rules will probably be a bit more harsh in the beginning stages, and a bit more relaxed in the ending stages, as I don't think anyone will want to take a team that's over the cap and talentless going into our last season.
Who would run the league?
Me. I'm pretty sure I can handle Day-to Day Operations (No Draft File to make, lots of time to input Depth Charts, et cetera should speed things up). I would welcome help with recruiting, PPs, backup simmers, et cetera.
How will teams be chosen?
First come, first serve. I was lucky enough to get my second favourite team unknowingly, as when the league began, I had no idea the SuperSonics would move to Oklahoma City. But I'm sure that others were not as lucky, so I'd propose nobody having a hold on any team, and having people just reserve teams as they come. Having old GMs reserve their seats would just be too complicated and time consuming.
And now, I turn my questions to you guys. What do you think? Good Idea? Bad Idea? Have I overlooked something? Suggestions for making it different? If you're Gus or Chris, do you approve of this idea? Have I left unanswered questions, like....
How does the Universe Work? How can you win a new car on the Price is Right? Where is the best pizza in the world? When Will Chris Cohan Sell the Warriors?
Regardless, I'm eager to hear your opinions, and whether you'd be interested. So just respond below!
